Richard (Dick) Walimaki, of Issaquah, died at Private Nursing Care Inc. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010. He was 79.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. March 5 at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home, 540 E. Sunset Way. A reception will follow.

Richard was born July 13, 1930, in Greenland Township in Northern Michigan, the son of Victor Dorigo and Vivian Walimaki Dorigo. He was raised in Burke, Idaho, and Tukwila, and graduated from Foster High School in 1948.

When he graduated he moved to Burke, Idaho, to work in the Star Silver Mines. He enlisted in the Marines and was a demolition expert and later was a drill sergeant. In 1955, he moved to Seattle and joined the Seattle Fire Department as a fireman. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from North Seattle Community College and was promoted through the ranks to captain until his retirement in 1981.

After retirement, he divided his time between Indio, Calif., and Crescent Bar in Quincy. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel.

Richard, a widower, was married three times and is survived by his daughter, Valerie Lipp (Bruce); a granddaughter; two brothers, Jack Walimaki (Adele), of Whidbey Island, and Bill Walimaki (Sue), of Renton; two nieces; and a nephew.

The family suggests remembrances to Alzheimer’s Association or the NW Burn Foundation.
