Shirley Ann McCarty, of Sammamish, died March 6, 2010, at Evergreen Hospice, Kirkland. She was 74.A celebration of Shirley’s life will be at 11 a.m. March 12 at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home, 540 E. Sunset Way, Issaquah. Call 392-6444.

Shirley was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Ogema, Minn., to Michael and Elva Winter. She was raised in Detroit Lakes, Minn., where she graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1953. Following high school, Shirley went to work at the local Super Value Grocery.

On March 15, 1958, Shirley married Bob McCarty in White Earth, Minn. They lived in Minnesota until 1967, when they moved to the Wallingford district of Seattle. In 1979, they moved to Redmond and in 1991, they settled in Sammamish.

In her leisure time, Shirley enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, cooking, and collecting antiques and trinkets. Her family remembers her as a woman of great fortitude who cherished a good laugh. Shirley was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she is deeply missed.

Survivors include her abiding husband, Bob, of Sammamish; children Kevin McCarty, of Spokane, and Michelle King, of Sammamish; siblings Darrell Winter, of Audubon, Minn., MarJo Birdsall, of Florida, Rodney Winter, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Eloise Dovre, also of Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki-Lynn Brickman; brothers Don and Duane; and a sister, Betty Toman.
