King County public health and political leaders will host a series of community walks through Friday to mark National Public Health Week.
Dr. David Fleming, director and health officer for Public Health – Seattle & King County, led a 30-minute kick-off walk in downtown Seattle. Other walks will be held throughout the week. Learn more about the program here.
“Walking is one of the easiest ways to improve your health and feel better,” Fleming said in a news release. “By partnering with communities to create more safe places to walk, Public Health is working to make healthier choices easier.”
King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn declared April 5-11 as Public Health Week for King County and Seattle.
“Public Health means healthier communities and a better economy,” Constantine said in the release. “It’s one of the most cost-effective investments we can make in our community. By helping people lead healthier lives and be more able and productive, we can help reduce the need for expensive health care.”
