Issaquah High School
The Issaquah High School community raised $2,100 March 11 during the annual Battle of the Bands competition at the Pacific Cascade Freshman Campus. This year’s competition also doubled as a benefit concert for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
Hundreds of students, parents and employees throughout the district came to donate their money to the cause and Barefoot Contingent donated its time to play as a special guest.
Eastside Football Club
Eastside Football Club members from the boys under 16 team won the state Challenge Cup title March 7 for the second year in a row.
The boys played their match against the Vancouver-based Columbia Timbers at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila. The match went into overtime; the Eastside Football Club won 2-1.
The team is based in Preston and coached by Mike Williams and Paul Spears. As a result of the win, the team will travel to Medford, Ore., in June to participate in the President’s Cup Regional tournament, where they will face off with other top teams from California, Hawaii and Colorado.
IHS Junior State of America club
The Issaquah High School Junior State of America club participated in a simulation of Congress in February.
Eighteen student delegates attended the event to pass legislation written by students. Club members Liza Romanow, Mark Vernon, Matt Sekijima and Delaney Foreman were key to planning the event, which brought chapters from Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Honduras together.
IHS drill and pom team
Issaquah High School’s drill and pom team has qualified for the state tournament.
Five students qualified for the state’s 4A drill down competition: DeAnna Mohaghegh, Alex Morris, Kaitlyn Simester, Annie Wang and Alex Zunser will represent the school. Simester took third place and Zunser took first place at the district competition.
