The Issaquah High School baseball team sits alone in first place of the Crest Division today after walloping Eastlake 11-1 on Monday in a five-inning 4A KingCo Conference contest.
Issaquah’s bats matched the steady rain that fell throughout the game. The Eagles, 10-3, pounded out 13 hits.
Spencer Rogers led Issaquah with three hits. He also drove in a run. Devin O’Donnell and pitcher Shane Yarnell each had two hits and two RBIs. Mike Paulson and Grant Gellatly each had two hits.

King County Council sets priorities for the year

Officials want county government to protect public health and safety, enhance residents’ quality of life and earn the trust of constituents, King County Council members decided.
The council adopted a “21st Century Governance” motion last week to track 45 actions the county plans to complete or begin by December. Find the progress report here.
Councilwoman Kathy Lambert — who represents Issaquah and other parts of the Eastside on the council — cosponsored the motion.
Issaquah Police arrest car prowlers

Issaquah Police arrested a Seattle man and a Des Moines woman early Monday after a caller noticed the suspects attempting to open parked vehicles — including the caller’s car.
Police responded to the 2100 block of Northwest Boulder Way Drive at about 3:20 a.m. Officers saw a vehicle matching the description provided by the caller flee the area.
Police later found the vehicle with a flat tire along eastbound Interstate 90 near Front Street North. The suspects had fled into nearby bushes.
State patrol seeks trooper cadets

Washington State Patrol leaders need a few good men and women — 54 to be exact.
Gov. Chris Gregoire and the Legislature authorized the agency to hire 54 trooper cadets in July. Now, the state law enforcement agency faces a challenge to find enough qualified candidates to fill the class.
Hiring took on a new urgency due to the number of vacancies and potential vacancies WSP faces. The agency has 34 trooper vacancies, and another 100 or so commissioned officers will be eligible to retire Jan. 1.
District high school students can find fun and games Tuesday

All Issaquah School District high school students are invited to attend a special districtwide fun and games night at the Family Fun Center & Bullwinkle’s Restaurant, 7300 Fun Center Way, Tukwila.
The Family Fun Center has a variety of activities for students, including video games, a flight simulator, batting cages, go karts, bumper boats and the Screamin’ Swing.
The night kicks off at 5 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. The cost is $15 per person either online or at the door.

Cybil-Madeline Park, Compassion House donor dies

The philanthropist who donated land for a planned downtown park and housing for the homeless has died.
Julia Pritt, 77, died April 3 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. The philanthropist amassed a fortune when she and then-husband Frank Pritt launched a software company, Attachmate Corp. Julia Pritt led accounting and human resources for the company.
The retired software executive left a diverse legacy in downtown Issaquah. Her donations laid the foundation for a much-anticipated park and needed transitional housing units.
Festival organizers unveil Salmon Days theme

Salmon Days Festival organizers adore puns, and the theme for the 2010 event nods to dry land with a bit of wordplay: “Something up our leaves!”
The team behind the four-decade-old festival unveiled the theme Friday. The wordplay and accompanying logo — rendered in earthy greens and eye-popping reds — will appear on festival signs, artwork and merchandise.
Salmon Days returns for a 41st year Oct. 2-3.
Like she has for the past 16 festivals, Issaquah designer Robin Dale Spicer created theme and logo.
Suspect arrested in connection with Squak Mountain residential burglaries

Acting on a tip, Issaquah police officers arrested a 26-year-old Issaquah man in connection with two recent residential burglaries that occurred in the Squak Mountain neighborhood.
Both of the burglaries occurred April 21 on Mount Fury Circle Southwest and Mount Olympus Drive Southwest. Both homes were entered by an intruder who forced a door open. Officers recovered more than $3,000 in stolen property, including several flat screen TVs, a guitar and a computer.
The suspect is being held in the King County Jail on felony possession of stolen property and a Department of Corrections violation.
Police are looking for witnesses to the crimes and encourage anyone who may have seen anything suspicious that day to call Detective Ryan Raulerson at 837-3238.
Celebrity chef Giada de Laurentiis visits Issaquah on Friday

Food Network star, celebrity chef and cookbook author Giada de Laurentiis will sign copies of her latest book at the Issaquah Costco on Friday afternoon.
The diminutive de Laurentiis — best known for the Italian recipes she prepared on the Food Network show “Everyday Italian” — will appear at the flagship Costco to promote “Giada at Home: Family Recipes from Italy and California.”
The appearance runs from 4-6 p.m. at the warehouse, 1801 10th Ave. N.W. The store expects a large crowd, and a store employee said some fans could line up hours early for the afternoon appearance. Call the warehouse at 313-0965 for additional information.
