Issaquah edges Skyline in softball thriller

The Issaquah High School girls softball team scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday to defeat host Skyline 5-4 in a 4A KingCo Conference extra-inning thriller.

Winning pitcher Mikenzie Voves went the distance, allowing just one earned run while striking out 16 batters. Skyline pitcher Lauren Richard also worked all nine innings and had 10 strikeouts.

Brielle Bray had three hits and drove in two runs for Issaquah. Teammate Amanda Marques also had two hits.

Mickey Dunn-Blad and Anya Kanyer each had two hits for Skyline.

Issaquah lacrosse whips Vashon

Todd Jones, Ben Director and Nate Bean each scored three goals Wednesday as the Issaquah High School boys lacrosse club walloped host Vashon 14-1 in a nonleague contest.

Kevin Powers had a goal, three assists and five groundballs for Issaquah, which plays at Bellevue Friday in a Washington State League Division I contest. Bellevue is undefeated in league play while Issaquah has suffered just one defeat.

Post-season updates

The Issaquah High School baseball team will play Lake Washington or Woodinville at 10 a.m. Saturday in the first round of the 4A KingCo Conference tournament at Woodinville High School.

Skyline plays Inglemoor at 1 p.m. in the second game of the tournament.

In other games, Newport plays Bothell at 4 p.m., and top-seeded Redmond plays Woodinville or Lake Washington at 7 p.m.

The tournament continues Monday with loser out games at Inglemoor, and winners’ bracket games at Woodinville.

The KingCo title game is May 13 at 7 p.m. at Woodinville. The KingCo champion advances to the 4A regionals while the loser of the title game will host the Greater St. Helens League No. 2 team May 15 to determine a regional berth.

The survivor of the KingCo consolation bracket plays at the Greater St. Helens League No. 1 team May 15 for a regional berth, too.

Soccer tournament begins Saturday

The 4A KingCo Conference boys soccer tournament begins Saturday. Issaquah plays Roosevelt at 7:30 p.m. at Interbay Stadium in Seattle. Eastlake plays at Bothell at 7:30 p.m.

The winners of Saturday’s games will play at 5:30 p.m. May 11 at Seattle’s Memorial Stadium in the second round of the tournament.

Skyline, which ended up in a three-way tie for first place in the regular-season standings, plays Garfield on May 11 for the KingCo title at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.
