Mikenzie Voves tosses no-hitter in pair of wins for the Eagles

Issaquah High School senior Mikenzie Voves demonstrated last week why she ranks among the best pitchers in the 4A KingCo Conference.

Voves won two of three games, including a no-hitter, for the Eagles.

Voves went the distance May 5 in an extra-inning battle with rival Skyline. The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to edge the host Spartans 5-4.

Brielle Bray had three hits and drove in two runs for Issaquah. Teammate Amanda Marques also had two hits.

Voves allowed just one earned run while striking out 16 batters. Skyline pitcher Lauren Richard also worked all nine innings and had 10 strikeouts.

Mickey Dunn-Blad and Anya Kamber each had two hits for Skyline.

On May 3, Voves tossed a no-hitter as the Eagles blanked visiting Newport 10-0 in a five-inning contest. Issaquah scored all 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Voves struck out six and walked just one batter.

Bray, Tracy Castonguay and Chelsea Peart each had two hits for Issaquah.

Issaquah ended the week with a tough 2-1 loss to Crest Division-leading Eastlake. The host Wolves scored twice in the bottom of the first inning. Pitcher Nicole Guptil held the Eagles to three hits.

Spartans edge Redmond

Skyline had a busy week. In addition to the game with Issaquah, the Spartans rallied for a nine-inning, 4-3 victory May 6 against visiting Redmond. Skyline also lost to Newport 3-1 May 7.

In the Redmond game, Lindsey Nicholson smashed a home run. Richards had another strong performance, going the distance and striking out 12 batters.

Liberty takes two

In the 3A/2A KingCo, Liberty walloped host Sammamish 12-0 May 5.

Winning pitcher Denise Blohowiak hurled a one-hitter. She also had two hits and drove three runs. Savannah Herrera had three hits and knocked in two runs for the Patriots.

Liberty scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning May 4 and edged Mount Si 4-3.

Alexis Court had two hits and drove in two runs for Liberty. Blohowiak held Mount Si to three hits.
