Michael Tomlinson brings his hopeful and reflective music to Bake’s Place, from 7:45-10 p.m. June 26. His musical stories reflect his life’s journey, taking inspiration from nature with imagery of water, sky and earth running throughout.
A Texas native, Tomlinson has worked at a variety of jobs, including repairing bicycles and managing a golf pro shop, before turning to music. He released his first CD, “Run This Way Forever,” on his own Desert Rain label. His next three CDs came out on emerging Los Angeles labels.
After difficulties with that label and an ensuing and ultimately successful battle to reclaim full rights to his music, Tomlinson returned to Desert Rain and has managed his own recording career ever since. His latest recording, “Way Out West,” was released in 2009.
Tomlinson has played in both large performance halls and intimate house concerts. He has supported numerous benefits, including a post-Katrina fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity, which raised $23,000. In the 1990s, Tomlinson hosted the “Gathering of Friends.” These retreats on the Olympic Peninsula brought together friends for weekends of song, communion, laughter and goodwill.
