Baltimore Orioles sign Skyline High School grad

The Baltimore Orioles recently signed former Skyline High School baseball standout Brad Decater. He was the Orioles’ 36th round pick in this year’s amateur baseball draft.
Decater is playing for the Bluefield Orioles in Bluefield, W.Va. The team is part of the Rookie Appalachian League. He has appeared in 11 games and is hitting .263.
Last spring, Decater played at California State University, Northridge.
Lakeside Recovery wins opener
Lakeside Recovery scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday en route to a 4-2 victory against Honda of Bellevue in the opening round of the Brandy Pugh Memorial Baseball Tournament at Bellevue’s Bannerwood Park.
Dan Altchech, of Newport High School, singled in the winning run as Lakeside Recovery snapped a 2-2 tie.
Pitcher Connor Lawhead, of Skyline, was the winning pitcher in relief of Jared Fisher, of Newport. Fisher blanked Honda through the first five innings. However, Honda scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game.
Sean Penberthy, of Skyline, and Mike Smith, of Skyline, each had two hits for Lakeside Recovery. The senior American Legion team plays the Twin City Titans at 5 p.m. Thursday at Bannerwood. Friday, Lakeside Recovery plans the Vancouver Cardinals at 8 p.m. at Bannerwood.
In other first-round games, it was Chaffey 8, Bankers 6; Seattle Stars 5, Spokane Dodgers 2; and Baden 9, Taylor 7. The tournament runs through Monday.
