Marjorie Louise Squifflet (nee Metzger)
1925-2010
Margie was born in Wichita, Kan. She grew up sharing her life there and at her maternal grandparents’ home in Kansas City, Mo. She attend the Kansas City Art Institute and was an accomplished “amateur;” her works grace the walls of our home.
At the end of World War II (in 1945), she spent a year at the Army hospital in Brigham, Utah, with her “adopted” brother Jack Menefee, who had been badly wounded in the battle of Anzio.
She married Edmond Squifflet Sr. on Aug. 2, 1952 in Chicago. They moved to Detroit in 1957, and then to the Seattle area in 1960, where they went to work for The Boeing Co. (Margie retired in 1970 during the 1969-1971 “mass extinction” in the aerospace industry.)
In September 1961, they moved into their self-designed, Rowley-built home in Issaquah. Margie spent the remainder of her days in her beloved home, surrounded by the tall firs and cedars that “guard” us.
She worked as a bookkeeper/office manager at Bob Catteral’s Eastside Realty for 25 years, retiring in 2000. She thoroughly enjoyed that tenure.
She is survived by her husband, her son Edmond Jr., her grandson Edmond Danny and her daughter-in-law, Shana.
Margie fought a long and valiant battle with the deliberations of advancing old age. She did not “go quietly into the good night.”
You’re free now, honey. I’ll miss you always.
Vaya Con Dios.
There will be a celebration of life for Margie from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Issaquah Senior Center.
