City leaders announced details Friday about the search to hire the next Issaquah city administrator.

Prothman — the Bellevue consultant conducting the search — received 50 applicants from candidates in 11 states. The firm then narrowed the list to the 27 people qualified for the position.

Choosing the next administrator falls to Mayor Ava Frisinger. She plans to cut the list to six or seven finalists.

The finalists will then be invited to a community meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 7 at Tibbetts Creek Manor, 750 17th Ave. N.W.

The top candidates will face questions from two panels, including city staffers and community members picked by the mayor, the next day.

Debbie Berto, publisher of The Issaquah Press, has been selected for the community group.

Frisinger will select a top candidate and recommend him or her to the City Council for confirmation. The city hopes to fill the position by October.

Before the consultant launched the search, company chief Greg Prothman interviewed Frisinger, City Council members, city department leaders and community members in order to determine the ideal candidate.

The profile set by city leaders describes the ideal candidate as someone with “an appropriate sense of humor as well as a flexible ‘can-do’ attitude.”

The next administrator stands to earn $124,500 to $158,916, plus benefits.

Former City Administrator Leon Kos retired April 30 after 33 years in the role. Deputy City Administrator Joe Meneghini has served as acting city administrator since then. Meneghini has said he does not want the permanent post.
