Plan ahead for Interstate 90 lane closures through Friday
August 31, 2010
NEW — 2 p.m. Aug. 31, 2010
The state Department of Transportation plans close a single lane of Interstate 90 through Issaquah on Wednesday.
Crews plan to repair the guardrail on a section of the interstate just west of the Front Street exit. The lane is scheduled to close from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The project is unrelated to the widening of the East Sunset Way approach to the interstate interchange.
City turns on speed cameras as students return to school
August 31, 2010
NEW — 11 a.m. Aug. 31, 2010
The city has reactivated cameras to enforce speed limits along Second Avenue Southeast as students returned to Issaquah School District campuses Tuesday.
Police turned off the cameras for the summer. The cameras operate only from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. on school days to enforce the 20 mph speed limit.
The photo-enforcement system — installed across from Clark Elementary School near the intersection of Second Avenue Southeast and Southeast Evans Street — uses roadway sensors to alert the cameras to speeding vehicles.
The system includes a pair of cameras to record video of the violation and snap a photo of a speeding vehicle’s rear license plate. Drivers receive the violation in the mail about 14 days after the incident.

NEW — 10 a.m. Aug. 31, 2010
Sure, Issaquah has a Triple XXX Rootbeer Drive-in, but someday soon the city could host another iconic burger joint: Dick’s Drive-In.
The longtime Seattle chain announced plans Monday to open a sixth location in the Greater Seattle metropolitan area. The location hinges on votes cast at the chain’s website.
The contest divvies up Greater Seattle into three regions. East includes Issaquah, Bellevue, Bothell, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Redmond and Sammamish. North includes Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Shoreline and South Everett. South includes Burien, Renton, SeaTac, South Seattle, Tukwila and West Seattle.
Use DOT tools to make Labor Day travel less of a chore
August 31, 2010
NEW — 8 a.m. Aug. 31, 2010
Labor Day means traffic on state highways during the last of the busy summer weekends.
AAA projects close to 10 percent more Labor Day holiday travelers this year — 34.4 million drivers nationwide plan to take a trip at least 50 miles from home.
The state Department of Transportation alerted drivers to expect delays along U.S. 2 and Interstate 90, and along Interstate 5 at the Canadian border and south of Olympia through Lewis County.
The agency predicts better travel times in most areas Wednesday or Thursday morning, and on Sept. 7.
Follow fire safety tips during Labor Day weekend
August 31, 2010
NEW — 6 a.m. Aug. 31, 2010
Despite a cooler forecast for Labor Day weekend, the state Department of Natural Resources has reminded outdoors enthusiasts to follow the statewide burn ban in effect until Sept. 30.
During the ban, campfires can be lit — but only in approved fire pits in designated campgrounds. Campers cannot build their own fire pits as part of the ban.
The ban applies to all state forestlands, including Tiger Mountain State Forest near Issaquah.
“Please help us stop wildfire before it starts by putting campfires completely out,” state Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark said in a news release.
