Giggly, wiggly babies are cute. They just are. Whether they are dressed in Halloween costumes, modeling crazy hair, snuggling with their favorite pets or otherwise, the perfect baby picture makes almost everyone ooh and ahh in adoration.
Two local babies achieved that ideal combination of cute and photogenic, winning first and second prizes in the 2010 Swedish Medical Center “I’m a Swedish Baby” campaign.
Issaquah’s Maria DeCaprio, now 9, took second place in the Trick or Treat category for a picture of her dressed as a hydrangea bush.
“I think her picture is so cute and I thought others might agree,” Maria’s mother, Kathy DeCaprio said.
DeCaprio saw an advertisement for the contest on Facebook, and saw it as a fun thing to take part in. She was pleased with the ease of entry, as it was all online and as simple as “click, click, click,” she said.
Trent Lim, of Newcastle, took first place in the Craziest Hair Day category, showing off his thin hair that sticks straight up. His mother, Heidi Nguyen, sees it as completely normal.
“A lot of people say he always looks like he was attacked by a balloon,” she said. “I get comments about it a lot, actually.”
The contest was a celebration of Swedish’s 100-year birthday, and a method of reconnecting with more than 200,000 babies born at its locations in the state, according to a press release. More than 2,000 baby photos were entered, and the judges had their work cut out for them.
First-prize winners were given a two-night stay for four at Great Wolf Lodge and a $300 gift card to spend at their stay. Second-place winners received a $500 Nordstrom gift card and third place winners received $250 to Amazon.com.
