Issaquah High School golfers top Garfield

NEW — 11:45 a.m. Sept. 9, 2010

Ben Halter shot a 1-under-par 35 Wednesday as he led the Issaquah High School boys golf team to a 184-211 victory against visiting Garfield at the Snoqualmie Falls Golf Course.

The win was the second straight for Issaquah in 4A KingCo Conference competition.

Alex Ciszewski was second for Issaquah with a par 36. Brendan Jung and Matthew Gann each had 37s for the Eagles.

Skyline sweeps Liberty in volleyball

Hallie Erdahl had 12 kills and 10 digs, and Maddie Magee had 15 kills and four aces Wednesday as they led the Skyline High School volleyball team to a 3-0 season-opening victory against visiting Liberty.

Skyline won the nonleague match 25-11, 25-17, 25-23.

Madison Stoa contributed 31 assists and three aces, and Paige Haas added nine kills for Skyline.

In other action, Eastlake lost to Seattle Prep 3-0 in a nonleague match. Seattle Prep won the games 25-20, 25-8, 25-19. Anna Gorman had 11 kills and Kelly Logie 13 assists for Eastlake.

New York Yankees recall Curtis

Former Issaquah High School baseball standout Colin Curtis was recalled by the New York Yankees from Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Sept. 6. Curtis was called up by the Yankees earlier in the summer but sent down when the American League East Division leaders traded for veteran players for the stretch run.

In 66 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Curtis hit .289 with five home runs, 24 doubles and 27 RBIs.

Skyline grad honored

University of Florida’s McKenzie Barney, a former Skyline High School soccer star, was named the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Soccer Player of the Week on Monday.

Barney scored a goal in the Gators’ 3-0 victory against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 3 and tallied the game-winning goal Sunday as Florida defeated San Diego State 1-0.

On the season, Barney has three goals and two assists. She leads the team in points with eight.
