Liberty boys cruise to cross country win

The Liberty High School boys cross country placed five runners in the top 10 and cruised to a 3A/2A KingCo Conference victory Wednesday at home against Interlake and Lake Washington.
Tyler Westenbroek, of Liberty, finished first in the 5,000-meter race in 18 minutes, 34 seconds. Teammate Alex Velasquez was second in 18:36. Nick Knobich and Scott Turner were fourth and fifth respectively for the Patriots and Hiron Redmond was eighth.
Liberty won the meet with a low of 20 points. Interlake was second with 35 and Lake Washington took third with 83.
In there girls meet, Interlake took first with 18 points and Liberty was second with 38. Lake Washington failed to field a complete team and was third. Amy Broska was Liberty’s top placer, finishing fourth in 22:56.
In the 4A KingCo Conference, Skyline showed its strength in both the boys and girls meets at Kirkland’s Big Finn Hill Park. Skyline had 21 points to win the boys meet. Issaquah was second with 50 and host Bothell took third with 64. Kyle Branch and Keegan Symmes, finished first and second respectively for Skyline. Jamon Rogers was fifth, Kevin Tidball sixth, Jay Bowlby seventh and Ryan Rixon eighth for the Spartans. Times of the Skyline runners were unavailable. Turney Wiley was Issaquah’s top runner, finishing third in 17:02.
In the girls meet, Skyline won with 19 points and Issaquah was second with 50. Bothell ended up third with 67. Jordan Branch, of Skyline, won the race in 21:09 and led a strong contingent of teammates. Skyline had eight runners in the top 10. Nicole Migotsky, of Issaquah, was second in 21:36 and teammate Rachel Osgood was seventh.
Skyline golfers down Newport
Jack Quinton, of Skyline High School, took medalist honors Sept. 15 with a 1-under-par 35 as he led the Spartans to a 189-205 victory against host Newport in a 4A KingCo Conference match at The Golf Club at Newcastle.
Skyline’s Brian Mogg was second with a 36.
Skyline Spartans blank Kennedy Catholic
Maddi Christ had a goal and an assist Wednesday as she sparked the Skyline High School girls soccer team to a 4-0 nonleague victory against host Kennedy Catholic. Anna DeWeirdt, Madi Barney and Jackie Wilson scored Skyline’s other goals. Goalkeeper Tina Vargas recorded the shutout. Skyline is 5-0 on the season.
