Patriots pummel Sammamish

Chandler Jenkins scored five touchdowns and accumulated 317 offensive yards Sept. 17 as he sparked the Liberty High School Patriots to a 52-7 3A/2A KingCo Conference rout of host Sammamish.

Sammamish scored first in the game on a 53-yard run by Austin Lee. The Patriots, 2-1 on the season, then countered with 52 unanswered points.

Jenkins rushed for two touchdowns in the first quarter, bolting for runs of 65 yards and 30 yards. He also rushed for two touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of seven and 41 yards.

In the third quarter, Jenkins teamed with quarterback Trey Wheeler on a 47-yard touchdown pass. Jenkins finished the game rushing for 191 yards on 10 carries, and catching seven passes for 126 yards.

Wheeler completed 10 of 23 passes for 148 yards. He also ran 13 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Trevor Merritt booted a 33-yard field goal in the second quarter. Liberty led 38-7 at halftime.

The Patriots’ final score came on a 24-yard run by Hamilton Noel in the fourth quarter.

Liberty entertains Mount Si at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in what should be a key conference contest. Mount Si, 2-1, comes off a 42-6 victory against Lake Washington.

Spartans blank Kennedy Catholic

Maddi Christ had a goal and an assist Sept. 15 as she sparked the Skyline High School girls soccer team to a 4-0 nonleague victory against host Kennedy Catholic.

Anna DeWeirdt, Madi Barney and Jackie Wilson scored Skyline’s other goals. Goalkeeper Tina Vargas recorded the shutout.

Skyline is 5-0 on the season.

Eagles race by Redmond

Stacy Maier captured the 100 freestyle and swam as a member of three winning relay teams Sept. 14 as she led the Issaquah High School girls swim team to a 106-77 4A KingCo Conference victory against Redmond.

Maier won the 100 freestyle in a state-qualifying time of 54.21 seconds. The Eagles won the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Other Issaquah first places came from Kylie Lynch in the 200 freestyle, Jamie Elderkin in diving and Kellie Langan in the 100 butterfly.

Liberty soccer goes 2-0

The Liberty High School girls soccer team is off to a great start in 3A/2A KingCo Conference action. The Patriots won their second game of the week Sept. 16 by blanking visiting Bellevue 2-0.

Cassidy Nangle scored both goals for Liberty in the first half.

Goalkeepers Macaire Ament and Jennifer Rucker recorded the shutout.

The Patriots defeated Mount Si 2-1 Sept. 14 in the league opener for both teams.

Kimi Fry, assisted by Whitney Cain, put Liberty ahead 1-0 in the 10th minute. Shannon Daly scored an unassisted goal at the 33rd minute to give Liberty a 2-0 halftime lead.

Issaquah soccer takes two

The Issaquah High School girls soccer team won two nonleague games last week.

The Eagles routed Seattle Christian 7-1 Sept. 16. Margaret Rauch scored two goals and had an assist for the Eagles.

On Sept. 18, the Eagles nipped Eastside Catholic 2-1. Rauch and Elisa Evans scored for Issaquah. Molly Callans accounted for Eastside Catholic’s goal.

The two victories boosted Issaquah’s record to 4-1.

Liberty spikes Bellevue

The Liberty High School volleyball team swept visiting Bellevue 3-0 Sept. 13 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference match.

Liberty won 25-13, 28-26, 25-16. Megan Tsutakawa was all over the court for the Patriots as she accumulated 30 assists, three aces and 12 digs. She also had a block.

Aspen Winegar contributed five aces, six kills and 14 digs; Kristy Braunston had six aces, three kills and 19 digs; and Taylor Weik five aces, eight kills and six digs.
