Liberty High School Patriots torch Totems

The Liberty High School girls soccer team won its third straight 3A/2A KingCo Conference game Tuesday when the Patriots walloped visiting Sammamish 5-0.

Sara Duvall and Cassidy Nangle each scored two goals for the Patriots, who took over sole ownership of first place.

Liberty led 2-0 at halftime. Duvall scored an unassisted goal at the 17th minute and a minute later Cassidy, assisted by Mollie Cooke, scored.

Goalkeepers Macaire Ament and Jennifer Rucker shared the shutout.

In other action, Mercer Island knocked Interlake out of a first place tie with Liberty by beating the Saints 1-0; it was Juanita 3, Bellevue 0; and Lake Washington 1, Mount Si 0.

Issaquah Eagles blank Inglemoor

Deanna Dakar, assisted by Audrey Thomas, scored at the 50th minute to break a scoreless tie Tuesday as the Issaquah High School girls soccer team defeated host Inglemoor 1-0.

The victory for Issaquah was its second straight in 4A KingCo Conference action. Goalkeeper Brooke Miller recorded the shutout. Issaquah has won six straight games since losing its season-opener.

In other 4A KingCo action, defending state champion Skyline won its league opener by defeating Newport 2-0. Alexa Strom and Nicole Cangioglos scored Skyline’s goals. Goalkeeper Tina Vargas recorded the shutout. Skyline is 6-0 on the season and has yet to surrender a goal.

In other games, it was Eastlake 5, Ballard 4; Bothell 1, Redmond 0; Roosevelt 3, Woodinville 3; and Garfield 2, Nathan Hale 2.

Skyline swimmers sink Woodinville

The Skyline High School girls swimming team had four state-qualifying times Tuesday as the Spartans cruised by Woodinville 116-69 in a 4A KingCo Conference meet at Issaquah’s Julius Boehm Pool.

Meghan O’Keefe and Maria Volodkevich tied for first in the 200-yard individual medley, both swimming the event in a 4A state-qualifying time of 2 minutes, 14.88 seconds.

Katie Kinnear captured the 100 backstroke in a state-qualifying time of 59.63.

O’Keefe, Volodkevich, Kinnear and Nina Zook composed Skyline’s winning 400 freestyle relay, which had a state-qualifying time of 3:47.82.

Skyline also won the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.

Stephanie Munoz (200 freestyle), Yui Umezawa (100 butterfly), Shanley Miller (500 freestyle) and Andi Scarcello (100 breaststroke) accounted for Skyline’s other first places.

Liberty netters nip Juanita

The Liberty High School boys tennis team edged Juanita 4-3 on Tuesday in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference match. Thomas Lowes, of the Patriots, won the No. 1 singles match by defeating Bill Narita 6-0, 6-3.

Patriots splash by Kangaroos

Nicole Lecoq won two events and swam on two victorious relays Tuesday to help propel the Liberty High School girls swimming team to a 3A/2A KingCo Conference 97-88 victory against Lake Washington at the Juanita Pool.

Lecoq captured the 500-yard freestyle in a 3A state qualifying time of 5 minutes, 21.10 seconds. She also won the 50 freestyle in 26.88. Lecoq anchored the Patriots’ winning 200 medley relay. Elise Tinseth, Ashley Vigen and Caitlin Duffner were other members of the relay.

The Patriots wrapped up the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay. Lecoq, Duffner, Katie Nelson and Tinseth composed the relay.

Tinseth had two victories. She captured the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke.

Other Liberty first places came from Duffner (200 individual medley), Rachel Wittenberg (diving) and Vigen (100 breaststroke).
