The best bagger in the state might be packing up groceries at the Issaquah Trader Joe’s.

Nathan Frerker, 22, is in the running to be Best Bagger of Washington State. The title is awarded to the winner of the Washington Food Industry Association’s annual Best Bagger Championship Finals.

Frerker and nine other challengers could take a $1,500 prize, the title and the chance to compete in a national bag-off in Las Vegas in February.

The bag-off is 3-5 p.m. Thursday at the Doubletree Hotel in SeaTac, 18740 International Blvd. Guests can attend for free to cheer on Frerker as he competes against other baggers from across the Evergreen State.

Lt. Gov. Brad Owen — the former owner of Brad’s Quick Stop, a grocery in Shelton — is scheduled to emcee the bag-off.

Could the competition — part of it, not the whole 2 hours, obviously — be posted on Youtube?
