Hidden satisfaction awaits at Back of Bella Deli

Easy to miss but not easily forgotten, Back of Bella Deli is a charming local spot with simple-yet-elegant food and a comforting atmosphere.
With its exposed brick walls, small tables and casual environment, the building provides a comfortable space for lunch, dinner or a cup of coffee.
Located off of Front Street in Issaquah, behind counterpart wine bar Vino Bella, the deli is hidden from view on the main street but is worth searching for. Open daily from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., all meals are covered with a menu that is sure to please a varied crowd.
Try one of the paninis and you will receive a sandwich grilled to perfection and served with a flavorful pickle and scoop of fresh egg salad. The options range from chicken breast with Swiss cheese, bacon, Dijon and tomatoes or the perfect concoction of roasted vegetables and caramelized onions in the veggie panini.
A wide range of sandwiches that don’t get to hit the grill are also on the menu. Bread choices vary from baguette to rye bread, with other ingredients remaining fairly simple. Add various deli meats, cheeses, lettuce, tomato and condiments and you have a much-loved classic sandwich to enjoy.
The signature Bella sauce leaves something to be desired, however, as it was difficult to distinguish from regular mayonnaise.
If in the mood for a breakfast to brighten your morning, or evening for that matter, bagels and breakfast sandwiches are served all day. The deli also offers a full espresso bar, with coffee from Café Umbria in Seattle.
Dessert options, while not on display, are listed on the menu with names that leave anyone with a sweet tooth drooling. Espresso crème brulee, limoncella flute, blood orange mousse and flourless chocolate cake are some of the options to satisfy your sweet cravings.
The service at the deli is quick, personable and polite. Despite me having entered the deli only twice, the staff remembered me and welcomed me back. Plates are brought out to the table, even for takeout, with a smile and a thank you.
Back of Bella Deli is not the cheapest option available when it comes to a sandwich, but the fresh and high-quality ingredients make it worth the extra few dollars. Sandwich and panini prices vary from $5.25 to $8.75. Desserts are on the pricier side, at $7 or $8 per plate.
