Liberty High School Patriots blank Islanders

The Liberty High School girls soccer team won its home finale Tuesday by defeating Mercer Island 1-0 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference contest. Cassidy Nangle, assisted by Kialiana Johnson, scored the game’s goal at the 48th minute.

Goalkeepers Jennifer Rucker and Macaire Ament recorded the shutout.

Liberty, 11-0-2 in league, concludes its regular season Oct. 28 at Interlake.

The Patriots, who have already clinched the league title, will host a first-round state tournament game Nov. 9 or Nov. 10.

Skyline Spartans blast Redmond

The Skyline High School girls soccer team concludes its regular season Tuesday at home by blasting Redmond 6-0 in a 4A KingCo Conference contest.

Skyline, which wrapped up the league title last week, scored two goals in the first half. Rachel Shim, assisted by Maddie Christ, put the Spartans on the scoreboard at 22:10. Nicole Candioglos boosted Skyline’s lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal at the 28th minute.

Michelle Bretl, Jackie Wilson, Alisha Connors and Brooke Bofto scored goals in the second half.

Goalkeepers Tina Vargas and Sydne Martinez shared the shutout.

Seattle Seahawks honor Issaquah receiver

Issaquah receiver Evan Peterson will be honored by the Seattle Seahawks at school Wednesday as the U.S. Army Player of the Week for his performance against Eastlake on Oct. 15.

During the Eagles’ 34-33 loss to the Wolves in three overtimes, Peterson caught 12 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns.

Peterson will receive two tickets to the Seahawks’ Nov. 7 game against the New York Giants, a personalized Seahawks jersey, a custom football and $250 will be donated to the school’s Associated Student Body fund.
