Girl Scouts of Western Washington invites local troops to participate in its newest Science, Technology, Engineering and Math challenge.

Thanks to program seed money from Girl Scouts of the USA, the Motorola Foundation, Bentley Systems Inc. and individual donors, Girl Scouts of Western Washington will support three new teams’ participation in FIRST LEGO League.

Girls in sixth through eighth grades, whether they are Scouts or not, can participate in the league. Teams will design, build and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology and connect their experiences to real-world math and science concepts.

Teams should meet between 35 hours and 70 hours before the Dec. 4 regional competition.

Each Girl Scouts of Western Washington team will have a laptop, robot kit and field map. The organization will cover selected team registration and competition fees.

The cost for each girl is $125, with financial assistance available. E-mail robots@girlscoutsww.org to learn more.
