Alan Risdon

Alan Daniel Risdon died Nov. 2, 2010, with his loved ones by his side. He fought a brave battle with lung cancer and was lovingly cared for by his family at the end of his life. He was 59.

Alan was born to Ella and Dan Risdon on June 24, 1951. He was the oldest of six children and was a lifelong resident of Issaquah.

He married Rissa Wilson on July 6, 1973. Together, they had three children. Alan was proud to be a dad. He always talked about his kids and grandkids and would do anything for them. His grandkids adored him and affectionately called him Papa Al.

Everybody who met Alan knew that he had a great sense of humor. He was always making people laugh. He was very giving and generous. He enjoyed growing beautiful dahlias in his garden and enjoyed sharing them even more.

In his younger days, Alan spent a lot of time on the softball fields and was a great athlete. He enjoyed teaching his kids to play and spent many hours coaching them.

Alan had some difficult years that brought him to the depths of alcoholism. Perhaps his most noble accomplishment in life was overcoming his addiction. In emerging from the darkness, he became a better, stronger man who was absolutely determined to win his fight for sobriety, and help others do the same.

Alan rebuilt his life and began working for the city of Issaquah. A great moment in his life was being able to purchase his dream bike, a 2002 Heritage Springer Harley Davidson.

Alan’s favorite place to be was out in the boat fishing with his boys. He looked forward to their annual trip to Sekiu, Wash., and always brought home tons of salmon.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Dan Risdon, and his mother, Ella Risdon. He is survived by his children Julie Marie Hess (Darren), Kevin Alan Risdon (Karlye), and Lee Daniel Risdon (Edrie); eight grandchildren; his brother Ray; and sisters Barb, Doris, Jean and Connie.
