Lauren Maris and Nick Rocco, two former standout athletes from the Issaquah School District, have received academic honors this fall.

Maris, an Issaquah High School soccer star who plays for the University of San Francisco, was selected to the COSIDA Academic All-America District III women’s soccer team. A senior, Maris has a 3.83 grade point average and is majoring in exercise and sports science.

San Francisco coach Mark Carr said Maris is a “great leader on the pitch and in the classroom.”

Rocco, a Skyline grad who plays football for Dixie State College in Utah, was named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-academic team for the third straight year. A defensive tackle, he ranked third on the team in tackles with 66. Teammate Nick Cragin, another Skyline grad, was second in tackles with 82.

Former Issaquah star leads Cornell

Freshman running back Grant Gellatly, a former Issaquah High star, is the leading rusher on the Cornell University football team. Gellatly, who has started six games, has rushed for 308 yards. In Cornell’s 21-19 Ivy League victory against Princeton, Gellatly had a team-high 97 yards.
