Eastside Fire & Rescue plans to dispatch the “Reindeer Engine” to round up toys for needy children throughout December.

EFR has joined local nonprofit organizations and food pantries to collect nonperishable food items and new, unwrapped toys for the holiday season. EFR sends the “Reindeer Engine” — decked with lights, music, and a sleigh carrying Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer — to several locations to collect items for families in need. People can also donate nonperishable food items or toys at any staffed EFR station.

The Christmas-themed engine is scheduled to travel through the following areas:

  • Dec. 9 — West Issaquah, 5-7 p.m.
  • Dec. 10 —North Bend, 5-7 p.m.
