Skyline High School soccer coach honored

Skyline High School girls soccer coach Don Braman has been selected as the Washington large school coach of the year for 2010 by the National Soccer Coaches Association.

The nominees will be honored at the annual National Soccer Coaches convention Jan. 12-16 in Baltimore.

Braman led the Spartans to the 4A KingCo Conference title and a third place at the state tournament. The Spartans were ranked No. 1 in the nation entering the semifinals.

Issaquah senior signs with SPU

Issaquah High School basketball standout Maddey Pflaumer has signed a national letter of intent to play for NCAA Division II Seattle Pacific University starting next fall.

Pflaumer, a 5-foot-11 senior post, is heading into her fourth year on the Eagles’ varsity. She has been team captain for two years.

Pflaumer was a first-team 4A All-KingCo Conference selection last season, averaging 12.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game.

Liberty grad earns academic honors

Former Liberty High School football star Chris Prummer, a center on the Washington State University team, was selected to the Pac-10 Conference All-academic first team for second straight year.

Prummer, a senior zoology major, has a 3.9 grade point average.

Former Eagle gets top award

Issaquah High School graduate Joey Bradley, a quarterback for Diablo Valley College in California, was selected as the All-Golden Gate Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Bradley averaged a state-leading 335 yards per game. Twice, he threw six touchdown passes in a game.

Former Issaquah soccer standout honored

Former Issaquah High School soccer standout Lauren Maris, a senior at the University of San Francisco, earned all-West Coast Conference honorable mention this fall.

Maris concluded her career recently by scoring two goals in San Francisco’s 3-1 victory against Gonzaga University.

Maris, who has a 3.83 grade point average, also was selected to the All-District VIII academic team.

Eighth-grade boys win 11th

The Issaquah eighth-grade boys select basketball team outscored Sammamish 36-5 in the second half Dec. 5 en route to a 73-31 victory.

Issaquah, 11-0, was led by Sam Brakken’s 19 points. Ty Gibson added 13 points and Nate Bagley chipped in 12.

Islanders win Skyline tournament

Mercer Island captured the team title Dec. 4 at the Skyline Clash of the Classes Wrestling Tournament.

The tournament pitted Class 4A teams against 3A teams.

Mercer Island, a 3A team, defeated Decatur 38-36, Newport 64-0, host Skyline 57-15 and Eastlake 54-12.

Skyline had a 2-2 record. The Spartans defeated Liberty 54-24 and Hazen 45-33.

Liberty went 1-3. The Patriots’ one victory came against Newport 37-30.
