King County Metro Transit starts more than a week of reduced service Friday, as holidays cause a drop-off in the number of bus riders.

The transit agency operates on a reduced weekday schedule Friday, Christmas Eve. Metro Transit uses a Sunday schedule on Saturday, Christmas.

Then, Metro Transit operates on a reduced weekday schedule from Dec. 27-31. The agency uses a Sunday schedule again Jan. 1, New Year’s Day.

The planned reductions occur as Metro Transit usually has 20 percent to 40 percent fewer weekday riders.

The agency offers a list of affected routes to help riders prepare. During the reduced weekday schedules, some commuter and school-oriented routes do not operate, and other routes have individual trips canceled.

In addition, Metro Transit plans to raise fares next year in order to tackle a budget shortfall.
