Suzan DelBene lost the race to unseat the Issaquah representative, Congressman Dave Reichert, in November, but the Microsoft alumna has been appointed to a political post in Olympia instead of the other Washington.

Gov. Chris Gregoire has appointed DelBene as director of the state Department of Revenue, the agency responsible for tax collection.

DelBene has been tapped to lead the department as Gregoire seeks to simplify the tax system.“Suzan’s background with both large and small businesses will be an asset as the Department of Revenue works to simplify the tax code and reduce costs for businesses,” Gregoire said in a statement.

The governor announced the appointment less than a month after Election Day. DelBene garnered 48 percent in the 8th Congressional District race to unseat Reichert.

The former candidate has a University of Washington MBA and spent more than 20 years in the business realm, including stints at Microsoft and drugstore.com.
