Liberty girls basketball team overcomes Shorewood

The Liberty High School girls basketball team rallied from a first-quarter six-point deficit Wednesday to defeat Shorewood 43-33 in the KingCo/WesCo Challenge tournament at Juanita High School.

Liberty, 7-2 on the season, trailed 13-7 after the first quarter and was down by four points at halftime. However, the Patriots outscored Shorewood 16-8 in the third quarter to surge into the lead. Liberty put away Shorewood with 14 points in the final quarter.

Danni Sjolander topped the Patriots with 11 points. Aspen Winegar added 10 points and Sierra Carlson had eight points for the Patriots, who won their second straight game in the tournament.

Issaquah boys fall to Mount Rainier

Mount Rainier outscored the Issaquah High School boys basketball team 20-9 in the third quarter to break open a tight game and pull away to a 72-65 victory Wednesday in the Les Schwab Christmas Classic at Kennedy Catholic.

Adrian Davis, of Mount Rainier, led all players with 33 points.

Cole Westover topped Issaquah with 15 points. Nick Price contributed 11 points and Nik Landdeck had 10 points for the Eagles, who play Ballard Dec. 30 in the tournament.
