Issaquah unveils real-time traffic cameras on city routes
December 28, 2010
NEW — 3:35 p.m. Dec. 28, 2010
Motorists can receive real-time information about Issaquah traffic due to improvements the city unveiled Tuesday.
The city has launched a traffic camera website with information from cameras at 26 intersections citywide.
The city announced the program in May and, in recent days, pushed to activate the system in time for forecasted snow showers.
The technology does not allow for streaming video to be posted to the site. Instead, the site refreshes a series of images every minute or so.
Motorists can check the camera feeds and alerts — either from home computers, smart phones or other devices — to gauge traffic before taking to city streets.
Officials said the city received numerous requests from drivers to make real-time traffic images available.
Metro Transit reminds riders to prepare for snowy conditions
December 28, 2010
NEW — 3 p.m. Dec. 28, 2010
King County Metro Transit has urged riders to check the status of bus service Wednesday as snow showers enter the forecast.
Planners urged riders to check the winter weather website before traveling. Updates start at 4 a.m. each day.
The agency also encouraged residents to sign up for Transit Alerts to receive up-to-date information about snow operations.
Metro Transit is operating on a reduced schedule through the New Year. The reduced schedule means cancellations on some commuter and school-oriented routes.
Forecasts indicate snow in the lower elevations Tuesday night and Wednesday morning could be in form of snow showers. Meteorologists do not expect significant accumulations.
Regardless, bus operations could change rapidly. So, Metro Transit planners urged riders to prepare.

Snowfall is possible in Issaquah in the days ahead, as the mercury dips below freezing.

Issaquah residents at higher elevations on Cougar, Tiger and Squak mountains and Grand Ridge could experience snow accumulation of less than a half-inch.
The chance of snow is 50 percent for Wednesday, and accumulation could reach 1 to 2 inches. The mercury is expected to hover below freezing on Wednesday night, but temperatures should climb above freezing on Thursday.
Issaquah residents can find information about conditions on the city website, emergency information hotline, the city radio station at 1700-AM and on Channel 21, the municipal access channel. Call the emergency information line at 837-3028.
