Liberty High School swimmers sink Saints

NEW — 11 a.m. Jan. 14, 2011

Luke Duschl won two events and anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay Thursday as the Liberty High School boys swimming team topped visiting Interlake 91-89 in a thrilling 3A KingCo Conference meet at Julius Boehm Pool.

Duschl captured the 100-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Logan Briggs, of Liberty, also won two events. Briggs won the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle.

Liberty pulled out the victory in the 400 freestyle. Briggs led off the relay for the Patriots and Duschl anchored it. Connor Biehl and Kevin Hays were other members of the relay.

The Patriots also won the 200 medley relay. Duschl, Raymond Ha, Hays and Briggs composed the relay.

Other first places for Liberty came from Ha in the 100 breaststroke and Jesse Herrild in diving.

Skyline boys move into second

The Skyline High School boys basketball team won its third straight 4A KingCo Conference game Thursday when the Spartans whipped visiting Roosevelt 55-32. With the victory Skyline moved into a tie for second place in the Crest Division with Redmond. Skyline, 5-1 in league play, plays at Eastlake on Friday night.

Kasen Williams led Skyline with 16 points and Lucas Shannon added 13. Max Browne and Bryan Cikatz each had seven points.

Skyline took control of the game early by grabbing a 17-8 first quarter lead. The Spartans led by 11 points at halftime.

The Spartans are just one-half game behind Newport in the division standings. Newport, 6-1, is idle tonight.

Issaquah wrestlers down Bothell

The Issaquah High School wrestling team held off Bothell 36-34 Thursday in a 4A KingCo Conference battle.

Almen Thorpe, a 140-pounder, had Issaquah’s lone pin. Thorpe pinned Austin Moser in just 38 seconds. Issaquah’s David White (145) defeated Brandon Davidson with a 9-2 decision. Joseph Tonnemaker (152) and Daniel Fine (189) also won their matches with decisions. Tonnemaker defeated Dustin Rohde 5-0 and Fine defeated Magnus Leo 5-2.
