Issaquah girls basketball team takes tourney opener

The Issaquah High School girls basketball team grabbed an early lead and pulled away to defeat visiting Roosevelt 58-50 Wednesday in the opening round of the 4A KingCo Conference tournament.
Sabrina Norton led Issaquah with 15 points. Brooke Miller contributed 11 points and Dayna Talley had 10 points. Roosevelt’s Catherine Killian led all players with 16 points.
Issaquah plays Skyline at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Juanita High in the semifinals.
Skyline won its tournament opener 53-46 against host Inglemoor. Megan Wiedeman topped Skyline with 18 points. Michelle Bretl and Haley Smith each tossed in 11 points. Skyline broke open the game by outscoring Inglemoor 19-9 in the third quarter. Taylor Peacocke, of Inglemoor, scored a game-high 20 points.
In other action, host Eastlake held off Garfield 61-60 in overtime. Garfield stunned Eastlake early by shooting to a 15-8 first-quarter lead. The Bulldogs held a six-point lead going into the final quarter but Eastlake fought back to send the contest into overtime. Caleigh McCabe led Eastlake with 18 points. Garfield’s Cora McManus tallied a game-high 32 points.
Eastlake plays Woodinville at 8:15 p.m. in the other Saturday semifinal at Juanita. Woodinville, led by Melissa Gilkey’s 18 points, defeated Newport 60-51. Newport’s Chanel Cambronero scored a game-high 28 points.
