Five Guys Burgers and Fries is planning to open in the Issaquah Commons.

Operators applied for a business license from the city Feb. 16, and a sign announcing the restaurant appeared in a vacant storefront at the Issaquah Commons at about the same time. The opening date has not been announced, and a Five Guys spokeswoman could not be reached for comment.

The restaurant’s no-frills menu — think burgers, fries and hot dogs — has earned a loyal following from coast to coast. In fact, the Virginia-based chain has a tab labeled “fanatics” on its website.

The market research firm Chain Store Guide ranked Five Guys at No. 3 last year among the 50 fastest-growing restaurant chains in the United States and Canada. Five Guys boasts more than 500 outlets nationwide.

President Obama thrust the chain into the spotlight in May 2009 after a surprise lunchtime stop at a Five Guys restaurant in Washington, D.C.

The closest Five Guys restaurant to Issaquah is at The Landing in Renton, and another is planned to open soon at Overlake Fashion Plaza in Bellevue.

Five Guys is the latest national or regional chain to set up shop in the Issaquah Commons in recent months.

See’s Candies opened a shop just before Valentine’s Day and Bright Now! Dental settled in last November.

Just visited 5 Guys Burgers and Fries, and words could not discribe the experience. I grew up on In N Out burgers, but they have lost their edge by smaller and smaller patties and less and less beef. Smash Burgers is also new to Vegas and has a great Buger, but nothing in comparison to the 5 guys buger and fries. Real Beef, Juicy, Flavorful and all the toppings to please anyones taste. Fries sliced and cooked fresh to order…AWESOME…but come hungry because the burger is 2 patties unless you order the little buger (1 patty). I plan another visit for tomorrow night – Thanks 5 Guys!

Five guys hamburgers are good but Herfy’s in Snoqualmie is much better tasting and quality and is worth the drive
