Skyline soccer team tunes up for league opener

The Skyline High School boys soccer team, one of the preseason favorites for the 4A KingCo Conference title, tuned up for its league opener Monday with a 5-1 victory against visiting Auburn Mountainview.
James Molyneux-Elliott scored two goals for Skyline. Pedro Miola contributed a goal and an assist for the Spartans, 3-0-1 on the season.
In other action, Issaquah and Highline fought to a 1-1 tie in a nonleague game in Highline Stadium. Alex Shane, assisted by Drew Tacher, scored Issaquah’s goal at the 68th minute. Shane’s goal also tied the game. Issaquah’s overall record went to 3-0-2.
Both Skyline and Issaquah enter 4A KingCo play March 24. Skyline plays at Newport and Issaquah entertains Woodinville. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. Issaquah also hosts Skyline at 7:30 p.m. March 26.
Issaquah High School girls win golf opener
Lauren Merdinyan shot a 42 and captured medalist honors Monday as she led the Issaquah High School girls golf team to a 249-331 victory against visiting Garfield at the Snoqualmie Falls Golf Course. The match was the first of the season for Issaquah.
Elin Skaardal had Issaquah’s second-best round with a 46.
Issaquah boys lacrosse whips Eastlake
Kevin Powers scored five goals and Matt O’Neill tallied four goals Monday as the Issaquah High School boys lacrosse club whipped host Eastlake 19-1 in a Washington League Division I contest at Redmond’s Marymoor Park.
Jake Fritz contributed three goals and two assists for the Eagles, who are 3-0 in league play.
