Issaquah High School baseball team drops opener

The Issaquah and Newport high school baseball teams have had some classic battles of the years and their Tuesday 4A KingCo Conference opener was no exception. Newport, the host team, prevailed 1-0.
Newport scored its run in the bottom of the seventh to end a pitchers’ duel.
Ethan Kalin started for Issaquah and threw hitless innings before being relieved by Scott Boydston, who blanked Newport until the seventh.
Cole Wiper, Newport’s starting pitcher, worked the first five innings and allowed just two hits. He struck out eight. Jared Fisher, the winning pitcher, worked the final two innings for Newport.
Daniel Altchech singled in pinch runner Ioannis Kritsonis with the winning run.
In other action, Skyline lost to visiting Mount Si 11-5 in a nonleague game. Mount Si scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie.
Zach Liddle and Nate Litka each had two hits for Skyline. Robb Lane had three hits and drove in two runs for Mount Si.
Liberty softball team whips Mount Si
The Liberty High School softball team showed plenty of offensive firepower Tuesday as the Patriots walloped visiting Mount Si 12-3 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference game.
Denise Blohowiak and Jenn Rucker each had three hits to lead Liberty. Marissa Jeffers had two hits and drove in two runs, and Ana Faora had two hits for the Patriots.
Issaquah netters down Garfield
The Issaquah High School girls tennis team swept the three doubles matches Tuesday en route to a 5-2 victory against Garfield in a 4A KingCo Conference match.
Sam Garrard and Sabrina Norton, of Issaquah, won the No. 1 doubles match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Garfield’s Sheri Tran and Lauren Schechter.
In other action, Skyline defeated Roosevelt 6-1. Kirsten Park, of Skyline, captured the No. 1 singles match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Amy Shearer. Alison Opitz and Emily Murphey won the No. 1 doubles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Molly Knutson and Izzy Mason.
Patriots capture tennis victory
The Liberty High School girls tennis team won three of four singles matches Tuesday as the Patriots defeated visiting Mount Si 4-3 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference match.
Emmie Kellogg-Smith, of Liberty, defeated Shelby Thomas, of Mount Si, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match. Amber Eastham and Audry LaFraugh, of Liberty, downed Trina Erck and Rachel Swarny, of Mount Si, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles match.
Liberty soccer team rolls to win
The Liberty High School boys soccer team exploded for three second-half goals Tuesday as the Patriots defeated visiting Mount Si 3-1 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference game.
After a scoreless first half, Liberty’s Danny Dapper tallied the game’s first goal on a penalty kick at the 49th minute. Mount Si’s Dane Aldrich tied the scored at the 56th minute. Josh Muttart, assisted by Dapper, broke the tie at the 62nd minute. Alex Velasquez, assisted by Oliver Janders, wrapped up scoring for Liberty with a goal at the 75th minute.
Skyline lacrosse whips Overlake
Max Saffle, Jack Pruitt and Ryan McMackin each scored three goals Tuesday as they led the Skyline High School boys lacrosse club to a 14-6 victory against host Overlake in a Division I contest.
Skyline goalkeeper Cory Larson had 12 saves.
Spartans top Roosevelt in golf
Bryalynn Vowels took medalist honors Tuesday as she led the Skyline High School girls golf team to a 288-328 victory against Roosevelt at the Plateau Golf Club.
Vowels shot a 48.
