Motorist dies in head-on collision near Issaquah

NEW — 11:50 p.m. April 23, 2011

Police said a 36-year-old Covington man died after a head-on collision on state Route 18 near Issaquah on Saturday night.

The crash sent two other people to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police said the vehicles had been racing on a stretch of the highway east of Issaquah-Hobart Road Southeast.

The accident occurred at about 5:15 p.m., and the Washington State Patrol blocked the highway in both directions until about 9 p.m., forcing lengthy detours.

Troopers also arrested the driver of one of the racing vehicles as the investigation into vehicular assault and vehicular homicide continues.

Investigators asked witnesses to contact Detective Ruth Medeiros at 401-7719.
