Issaquah Rotary Club honors top students

The Rotary Club of Issaquah recently honored the following seniors as its students of the month for March.

Forrest Hurley

Forrest Hurley

-School: Liberty High School

-Category of recognition: physical education

-Parent: Jennene Hurley

-Sponsoring teacher: Emily Corley

-Achievements: lacrosse team captain (two years); varsity athletic letters (track, football)

-Activities: FCA president, Link Crew, Associated Student Body Spirit director

-Interests: history, aviation

-Hobbies: lacrosse, pole vault, snowboarding, football

-Future goals: undecided about educational goals; become a pilot

Meggie Martenson

Meggie Martenson

-School: Tiger Mountain Community High School

-Category of recognition: Running Start

-Parents: Sara and Gregg Martenson

-Sponsoring teacher: Bradley Nyhof

-Achievements: 3.5 grade point average; Running Start; 4.0 grade point average at Bellevue College

-Activities: leadership; selling cookies at school to raise money

-Hobbies: cooking, writing, skiing

-Outside school affiliations: working at Jitters Coffee in Bellevue; helping at Bellevue animal shelter

-Future goals: complete AA at Bellevue College; transfer to Central Washington University; become an elementary school teacher

-Achievements: 3.714 grade point average; first place Pro Start Restaurant Management Competition

-Activities: three years of culinary arts; Culinary Arts Management Team (2009); volunteer for catering events

-Hobbies: reading, movies, collecting records

-Outside school affiliations: Wilton’s cake classes

-Future goals: Renton Tech for baking/candy making; professional baker

-Achievements: 3.6 grade point average; National Honor Society inductee; KingCo Second Team cornerback; NFF Scholar Athlete (2010); four-year scholar athlete; DECA state qualifier

-Activities: advanced marketing; economics; DECA

-Hobbies: football, weight training, hiking

-Outside School Affiliations: Athletes for Kids mentor; DECA member

-Future goals: four-year university; major in business with concentration in finance
