Issaquah School District athletes earn titles

Kasen Williams, of Skyline High School, and Devin Bennett, of Liberty High School, each won individual titles Wednesday at their respective post-season track and field meets.
Williams, competing in the 4A Northwest Regional meet at Marysville-Pilchuck, won the boys high jump by going 6-feet, 4 inches. He also took second in the long jump by going 22-1 1/4. Williams was just edged by Alec Fellows, of Edmonds-Woodway, who won at 22-6 1/2. Issaquah’s Jorrell Dorsey was third at 21-1 1/4.
In other first-day action at the 4A Regional, Issaquah’s Jason Hollaway finished in a tie for second place in the pole vault by going 14-6. Skyline’s Kyle Branch was third in the 1,600 in 4:21.08.
In the girls competition, Skyline’s Lindsay Coutts was second in the long jump by going 16-10. Issaquah’s Mckenna Hogan was fifth at 16-7 1/4.
The second day of the meet took place Friday.
At the 3A Sea-King District Championships at the Southwest Complex in Seattle, Bennett won the boys triple jump by going 43-6 1/2. Liberty’s Hamilton Noel and Chase Kenney finished second and third respectively in the pole vault. Noel went 12-6 and Kenney went 12 feet. Matt Morris, of Liberty, was sixth at 11-6.
In the girls meet, Liberty’s Amy Broska placed fourth in the 3,200 in 11:38.32.
The second day of the Sea-King meet took place Friday.
Issaquah, Liberty softball teams knocked out
The Issaquah and Liberty high-school softball teams were each knocked out of their respective district tournaments Wednesday.
Issaquah, competing in the 4A KingCo Conference/District 2 tournament at Redmond’s Hartman Park, lost to Redmond 3-1 in a loser-out game. Heather Benjamin accounted for Issaquah’s run with a home run. The Eagles dropped their tournament opener to Ballard 2-1 Tuesday. Issaquah pitcher Brielle Bray tossed a four-hitter and struck out nine batters.
Liberty, competing in the 3A Sea-King District Tournament at Seattle’s Lower Woodland Park, lost to Bishop Blanchet 5-2 in a loser-out game.
Issaquah girls lacrosse team loses in semifinals
The Issaquah School District girls lacrosse team lost to Bainbridge 13-12 Wednesday in the semifinals of the Washington State Association Division I tournament. Sophie Schiefelbein scored four goals and Emily Mincin had three goals for Issaquah.
Skyline soccer wins first-round game
The fifth-ranked Skyline High School boys soccer team got goals late in each half to defeat host Central Kitsap 2-0 Tuesday and advance to the quarterfinals of the 4A State Tournament. Travis Strawn scored with an assist from Braxton Griffin in the 39th minute, and Griffin added a penalty kick goal in the 79th minute. The Spartans (13-2-2) will meet Mariner on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the state semifinals on May 27.
