Lakeside Senior American Legion baseball wins opener

NEW — 10:30 a.m. June 1, 2011

Catcher Jimmy Sinatro drove in six runs Tuesday as he led the Lakeside Senior American Legion baseball team to a season-opening 9-3 victory against host Bellevue Legion at Interlake High School.

Sinatro, who attends Skyline, had three hits for the game. Connor Gilchrist, also from Skyline, had three hits.

Christopher Weik, who attends Liberty, had three hits for Bellevue. Teammate Jason Hubbard, another Liberty player, had two hits.

Issaquah grad places third in nationals

Issaquah High School graduate Carly Andrews, a junior at Seattle Pacific University, finished third in the javelin May 28 at the NCAA Division II track and field championships in Turlock, Calif.

Andrews threw a career-best 144 feet, 9 inches. She also earned her first All-American honor.

Andrews went steadily up during the trials rounds, starting at 124-3 and climbing to 134-6. On the second of her three throws in the finals, Andrews flung it 144-9, putting her into second place. She was later passed by a teammate and ended up third.
