The Seattle Foundation is staging the biggest day of charitable giving in King County history Thursday — and people can donate to numerous Issaquah-based organizations and groups serving local residents.

The foundation’s GiveBIG fundraising effort continues until 11:59 p.m.

GiveBIG invites people to make donations to almost 1,000 nonprofit organizations, including the Issaquah Schools Foundation, Village TheatreFriends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery, Habitat for Humanity of East King CountyThe Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust and the Together Center.

The donations can then be stretched further using funds from a $500,000 “stretch pool” provided by The Seattle Foundation and GiveBIG supporters.

“The Seattle Foundation’s online Giving Center at is all about the democratization of philanthropy,” said former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice, foundation president and CEO. “GiveBIG provides an opportunity to see how much good we can do as a community, working together.”

During the GiveBIG challenge, a credit card donation of any size is then used to calculate the distribution of the “stretch pool” and a nonprofit organization’s share of the stretch pool is to be pro-rated based on the total online contributions made.

The challenge also features several “Golden Ticket” opportunities. For the opportunities, a donor name is selected randomly each hour, and the organization the donor made a contribution to receives another $1,000.
