Lakeside Recovery team tops Titans in tourney

The Lakeside Recovery Senior American Legion baseball team, for the second straight night had a big inning, and pounded out a 8-3 victory against the Twin City Titans on Thursday in the Brandy Pugh Memorial Tournament at Bannerwood Park.

The victory was the second straight for Lakeside Recovery, which plays the Bankers Baseball Club at 8 p.m. Friday at Bannerwood. Lakeside Recovery plays Chaffey, the defending tournament champion, at 8 p.m. Saturday at Bannerwood. On July 10, Lakeside Recovery plays Pacific Tech Construction at 2 p.m. at Bellevue College.

Issaquah High graduate Mike Paulson, who played at Walla Walla Community College last spring, had three hits to lead Lakeside Recovery against the Titans, a Senior American Legion team from the Richland area. Andrew Kemmerer, of Issaquah, had two hits, one a home run, and drove in three runs for Lakeside Recovery.

Lakeside pitcher Brandon Mahovlich, of Issaquah, worked the first 6.2 innings and had four strikeouts to earn his third victory of the season.

Lakeside Recovery improved its season ledger to 17-16.

In other tournament action Thursday, it was the Vancouver Cardinals 12, Spokane Dodgers 3; Bankers 8, Pacific Tech Construction 7, Chaffey 7, Bellevue Honda 1; and Kennewick Bandits 5, Taylor Baseball 1.

In the Chaffey-Honda game, Bubba Jones, Mitchell Gunsolus and Chance Laboda all had two hits for Chaffey. Jones, a catcher from Edmonds-Woodway, had a home run and a double. Honda scored its run in the top of the first inning but Chaffey answered in the bottom half with four runs.

Majors Tournament starts Saturday

The road to Williamsport, Pa., site of the Little League World Series, could begin for some local team Saturday when the District 9 Majors Tournament begins at Redmond’s Hartman Park.

The Issaquah All-Stars play Snoqualmie Valley at 1 p.m. Saturday in the first round. Sammamish, which drew a first-round bye, plays at noon July 10 against the winner of the opening round game between Redmond North and Kirkland American.

The district tournament runs through July 20 with the champion advancing to the state tournament.
