Lakeside Recovery baseball team snaps losing streak

The Lakeside Recovery Senior American Legion baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak July 14 when it defeated Honda Auto of Bellevue 5-2.
Lakeside, which had been shut out in two of its three previous games, hit three home runs off Honda pitching. Ethan Kalin, Aaron Sandefur, and Mike Paulson all smashed home runs for Lakeside in a five-run second inning.
Winning pitcher Connor Lawhead went the distance, striking out 10 batters and issuing just one walk. Lakeside concluded its regular season July 16 with two games.
On July 20, Lakeside hosts a sub-regional tournament at Bannerwood.
Mersadie Tallman finishes first
Issaquah’s Mersadie Tallman, in her final tuneup for the Washington Junior Golf Association District 2 tournament, took first place in the girls 14-15 division July 11 in a sub-district tournament at the Seattle Golf Club.
Tallman, who will be a freshman at Issaquah High School in the fall, shot an 85 and beat Jamie Midkiff, of Sammamish, and Yuri Machida, of Redmond, by two strokes.
Ashley Fitzgibbons, of Sammamish, placed first in the girls 12-13 division with an 80.
In the boys 14-15 division, Spencer Weiss, of Sammamish, took first place with a 74. Brian Mogg, of Sammamish, shot a 78 and tied Patrick Sato, of Bellevue, for second place.
The District 2 tournament is July 18-19 at the Mount Si Golf Club. The top finishers advance to the state tournament July 27-29 at Walla Walla.
