Plagued by interception trouble and a tough Eastlake Wolves defense, the Issaquah High School Eagles fell 44-17 in KingCo 4A Conference play Friday.
It was only the team’s second loss of the season. Eastlake (7-0) is the No. 2 ranked school in the state.
“You just can’t give up four interceptions and give up two special teams touchdowns to a quality team,” Issaquah coach Chris Bennett said.
With 6:18 left in the first quarter, Eastlake senior Colton Teglovic intercepted and returned a pass from Issaquah’s Ethan Kalin.
After a 35-yard field goal from Issaquah’s Alex Shane and a 23-yard pass from Kalin to junior wide receiver Reed Peterson in the second quarter, the score was 24-10 at the half.
Eastlake linebacker Sean MacDonald would grab two Kalin interceptions in the second half.
Issaquah finishes regular season play against Newport (3-3) on Oct. 21.
In other area action, the Liberty High School Patriots were defeated 32-10 by the Mercer Island Islanders. In a nonleague contest, Skyline High School Spartans beat the Jackson Timber Wolves 49-24.
