Issaquah Women’s Club holds scholarship fundraiser
October 25, 2011
In order to help support three separate scholarship programs, the Issaquah Women’s Foundation of the Issaquah Women’s Club presents a benefit concert from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Vasa Park Ballroom in Bellevue.
The featured entertainment will be Route 66, which performs the big band sounds of the swing era.
The Issaquah Women’s Foundation is the charity arm of the Issaquah Women’s Club. Founded in 1983, the group is an official 501(c)3 charity. The club is a social and service organization with about 100 members, said the group’s publicity committee chairwoman Deborah Bader.
“It’s grown over the years,” she added, saying members are of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds.
Regarding its scholarship programs, the group provides funds for a variety of young women. Bader said the group offers its own “Follow Your Dream Scholarships” to graduating senior women in the Issaquah School District. A second program awards funds for scholarships to the Eastside Domestic Violence Program. That group then gives out those scholarships.
Finally, the Issaquah club hands out funds to pay for attendance at summer camps offered by the Issaquah Parks & Recreation Department. How many scholarships are offered and their value depends on how much fundraising the group is able to accomplish, Bader said.
“The bottom line is, the more community support we receive, the more money we can give,” she said.
While education has been a focus of the Women’s Club, Bader said members also adopt a different charity monthly. For example, last month, donations went to the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank. At Christmas, the club adopts families for the holidays.
A member for about five years herself, Bader said the Women’s Club meets at 9:30 a.m. the first Thursday of every month at Tibbetts Creek Manor in Issaquah.
Tickets for the upcoming benefit are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Send an email to IWFtickets@hotmail.com or go to the Women’s Club website at www.issaquahwomensclub.org. Tickets also may be had by calling Women’s Club members Mary at 868-4098 or Judy at 641-9442.
