The day after the Salmon Days Festival concluded for a 42nd year, the iconic Issaquah event received 11 international honors.

The awards from the International Festivals & Events Association honored the 2010 festival and the theme “Something Up Our Leaves.” Salmon Days received honors for advertising, print, promotional and retail merchandise, including a prestigious Bronze Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Award — a top honor for festivals.

The festival competes against other events in the $250,000 to $749,999 budget category.

Canada Day at Canada Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, earned the Gold Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Award in the same category as Salmon Days. BorderFest 2011 in Hidalgo, Texas, garnered the Silver Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Award. (Salmon Days received the Silver award last year for the 2009 festival.)

Salmon Days received top — or Gold — honors for Best Cover Design for the festival program, Best Single Magazine Display Ad, Best Miscellaneous Printed Materials, Best Pin or Button, Best Hat and Best Miscellaneous Clothing.

The festival received Silver awards for Best Event Invitation, Best Overall Sponsorship Program and Best New Merchandise.

In addition to the Bronze Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Award, Salmon Days also received Bronze honors for Best Sponsor Solicitation Package.

International Festivals & Events Association leaders announced the awards Oct. 3 at a convention in Fort Worth, Texas. Robin Kelley, the lead Salmon Days organizer, and other festival officials could not attend, because the event occurred the day after Salmon Days ended in downtown Issaquah.

The most recent festival attracted more than 150,000 people Oct. 1-2 to downtown and the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery for the annual celebration.
