Katherine Chinn awarded scholarship at Biola University

Katherine Chinn, a freshman at Biola University and a Bellevue resident, was among 200 students who received one of the college’s highest scholarships — the Provost’s scholarship — for the 2011-12 academic year.

Freshmen are eligible for the Provost’s scholarship — $7,000 per year — if upon entering the university, they meet the requirements of the scholarship. Students must have a grade point average between 3.2 and 3.5 along with an SAT score of 1350-1500. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 to continue to receive the money the following year.

He has ably served our community as a school board member since 2005 by focusing on student achievement while remaining fiscally responsible. The hot yoga studio HOT YOGA Experience will open Nov. 1 in the Issaquah Commons near REI. HOT YOGA Experience will offer more than 30 classes each week in a variety of styles including: Vinyasa and Hatha for beginners to advanced. It also offers state-of-the-art personal, FAR infrared saunas.

HOT YOGA Experience will donate 100 percent of its merchandise sales to the Issaquah Schools Foundation in an effort to help students achieve their academic potential.

Bright Horizons at the Highlands greets clients

Bright Horizons opened its newest early education and preschool center, Bright Horizons at the Highlands, on Oct. 17 in the Issaquah Highlands.

Bright Horizons at the Highlands partnered with the YWCA Family Village at Issaquah by prioritizing a specific number of spaces for residents of the complex and by offering program assistance to qualifying families of the YWCA.

The center is at 930 N.E. High Street, Suite 102, in the YWCA Family Village at Issaquah complex.

Bright Horizons has served families in Seattle and surrounding communities for many years, allowing working parents the opportunity to balance their work and family life while providing high-quality early education for their children.

Bright Horizons at the Highlands has a capacity for 160 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years. The center offers full-time infant care; full- and part-time care for toddlers, twos and preschool; and before- and after-school care for school-aged children.

Bright Horizons at the Highlands will celebrate the grand opening of its state-of-the-art early education and preschool center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 3.

Fred Meyer, QFC join Taylor Farms salad recall

Fred Meyer Stores and QFC are participating in a voluntary recall initiated by salad maker Taylor Farms.

Taylor Farms announced the recall of several Fresh Selection bagged salads after a sample tested positive for salmonella.

Customers should check for specific Fresh Selection items with a sell-by date of Oct. 18.

The affected items all have the Fresh Selection label and include: Field Greens Salads, 8-ounce package; Leaf Romaine, 10 ounce; Romaine Salad Blend, 10 ounce; and Hearts of Romaine, 10 ounce.

Fred Meyer and QFC have removed affected items from store shelves. Customers who may have purchased the affected products will receive register receipt messages and/or automated phone calls. Any open or unopened items included in the recall should not be consumed and should be returned to a local Fred Meyer or QFC location for a full refund or replacement.

Marjorie Ann Hass

Marjorie Ann Hass, of Issaquah, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011. She was 90 years old.

Marge was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Oakland, Calif., the daughter of Charles and Anna Bischoff. She was raised in Oakland and graduated from Oakland High School. She also attended San Jose State College before going to Hawaii during World War II to serve as a WARD.

She married Richard Frank Hass in June 1950 and they lived in Piedmont, Calif., until 1971, when they moved to Lake Oswego, Ore., where she lived until 2005. In 2005, she moved to Issaquah.

She was a member of PEO and throughout her life she volunteered for many charitable organizations. Marge loved to travel, and entertain family and her many friends. She was devoted to her husband Dick, her daughter Ann and her grandchildren.
