Skyline volleyball team ousts Issaquah in KingCo tournament

The Skyline High School volleyball team stayed alive in the KingCo Conference 4A Tournament on Tuesday when the Spartans eliminated rival Issaquah 3-1 at Newport High School.
Skyline won the first set 25-22 but Issaquah bounced back to win the second game 25-21. The Spartans took the next two games 25-15 and 25-15 to win the match.
The Spartans were led by Maddie Magee, who had 11 kills and 10 digs, and Madison Stoa, who had six kills and 39 assists. Kennedy Stoa and Emily Harris each had 13 digs for the Spartans.
Sam Rogers led Issaquah with 11 kills, three blocks, 10 digs and three aces. Mckenzie Bostic contributed 35 assists and five aces, and Lindsey Ferguson added 10 digs and three aces.
Skyline, 12-4 overall, plays Roosevelt at 3 p.m. Thursday in a loser-out match at Bothell. If the Spartans win, they will meet either Garfield or Bothell at 4:30 p.m. in a match for KingCo’s No. 3 berth. The KingCo No. 3 team hosts the Western Conference No. 3 team Saturday in a match for a berth into next week’s state tournament.
Issaquah, which had a rebuilding season after graduating most of the 2010 team that finished second in the state tournament, ended the season at 3-12.
In other tournament action, Garfield ousted Eastlake 25-19, 25-23, 25-23. Newport, the regular-season KingCo champion, advanced to the tournament title game with a 26-24, 25-16, 25-20 victory against Bothell. Woodinville also advanced to the title game with a hard fought 3-2 victory against Roosevelt. Woodinville won 20-25, 28-26, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12.
Newport and Woodinville, who both advance to the state tournament, meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the tournament championship game at Bothell.
