Issaquah-based Twin Cedars Winery is toasting its success at the Tri-Cities Wine Festival.

The boutique winery earned a pair of bronze awards — for a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2009 merlot — at the 33rd annual festival Nov. 4-5.

The competition included wines from Washington, Oregon and Idaho, and recognizable names, such as Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, Hogue Cellars, Silver Lake Winery, Kiona Vineyards and Winery, Milbrandt Vineyards and Col Solare Winery.

Judges selected the top wines in blind tastings based on flavor, terrior and balance. The judges represented the wine education, media, restaurant and retail industries.

Twin Cedars Winery owners Rod and Dona Ahrens offered a 2009 Merlot, a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Syrah and a 2010 Orange Muscat in a commercial wine release during the summer.

Rod Ahrens handcrafts the wines from grapes grown in Washington’s premier viticultural areas, including Red Mountain and Rattlesnake Hills.
