BYU quarterback Jake Heaps receives award

Brigham Young University quarterback Jake Heaps, a former Skyline High School star, was named the FBS Independent Offensive Player of the Week for his Nov. 19 performance against New Mexico State.
Heaps, a sophomore, returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Sept. 30 and led the Cougars to a 42-7 home victory. He completed 21 of 36 passes for 238 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.
The week before, he came off the bench and completed 15 of 20 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns as BYU defeated Idaho, 42-7. Heaps was called into action when starting quarterback Riley Nelson was forced to the sidelines because of a chest injury.
