Issaquah boys basketball starts with two wins

The Issaquah High School boys basketball team got its season off to a promising start last week with a pair of nonleague victories.

Issaquah opened its season Nov. 29 with a 76-36 victory against host Mount Si.

After a close first quarter that saw Issaquah lead 10-7, the Eagles blew out Mount Si, 26-9, in the second quarter and raced to the victory. Issaquah senior guard Nick Price hit eight of 15 shots and finished the night with a game-high 18 points. He also grabbed six rebounds, blocked two shots and had three assists.

Freshman guard Ty Gibson contributed 10 points for the Eagles. Jake Henke added nine points. Ryan Sexton and Grant Bair, who each hit a pair of 3-point field goals, each had eight points.

Anthony McLaughlin led Mount Si with 11 points.

On April 3, Issaquah defeated Kent-Meridian, 59-55, in the Les Schwab Tipoff Classic at Auburn Riverside. Issaquah held a three-point lead at halftime and pulled away in the third quarter. The Eagles held off a late charge by Kent-Meridian in the fourth quarter.

Price, who led the KingCo Conference 4A in scoring last year, led the Eagles with 19 points. He also had 10 rebounds and three assists. Fletcher Martin, a senior forward, added nine points and nine rebounds. Drew Danner contributed four points, four steals and six assists. Gibson had six points, three steals and three assists.
