Liberty Patriots drop league opener

Liberty fell behind by 13 points in the second quarter Dec. 2 and could never overcome the deficit as the Patriots lost to host Sammamish, 84-65, in a KingCo Conference 3A/2A opener.

Jordan West led the Patriots with 17 points. Cam Lee contributed nine points for the Patriots, 1-2 on the season.

Liberty lost its season opener Nov. 29 to visiting Lake Stevens, 63-53, in a nonleague contest. The Patriots, who held a 13-point first-quarter lead, led 35-32 at halftime. Lake Stevens overcame Liberty in the third quarter to go ahead by six points. Tynan Gilmore had 14 points to top Liberty. Robbie Thomas and West each had 10 points.

The Patriots bounced back Nov. 30 to beat host Mariner, 44-36, in a nonleague game. Liberty, which trailed 32-18 at halftime, changed its defense in the second half and held Mariner to just four points. In fact, the Patriots shutout Mariner 16-0 in the final quarter. Thomas led the Patriots with 16 points. Ben Wessell added seven points.
